Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, has its deep roots in Indian culture & Hinduism. This festival is happily celebrated among the people in India.

Rituals & why is it celebrated?

The celebrations begin with the installation of beautifully crafted Ganesha idols in homes and public pandals (temporary structures). Many Devotees in India perform daily prayers with all family members & neighbours, offer sweets like modaks (a favorite of Shri Ganesha), laddus (another favourite of Shri Ganesha) & chant mantras & hymns.

This festival in India is celebrated at grand level in cities of Mumbai, Pune & Hyderabad. In Mumbai a very famous iconic idol in Lalbaug & Siddhivinayak temple are celebrated at grand level with cultural programs, including dance, music, games, performances, add to the festive spirit.

In recent years, there has been environment impact discussions about the Shri Ganesh idols in celebrations. There are many communities that are now opting for eco-friendly made up of clay & also natural colors use in immersion process to help reduce the water pollution. Also, this is practiced minimizing the use of plastics.
